Supported Independent Living

Cardinal Care provides NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) with 24/7 support across Brisbane and Hobart. See how SIL works and what it covers.
Supported Independent Living

Freedom With A Helping Hand

Living on your own terms should not mean doing it all on your own. NDIS Supported Independent Living, or SIL, gives you the everyday help to live independently with support close by. It covers personal care, household tasks and help to take part in your community. You might live in a shared home or one of your own. Cardinal Care provides that support up to 24 hours a day across Brisbane and Hobart, shaped around how you want to live. One thing to know is that SIL pays for support, not rent or everyday living costs.
Comprehensive Care in Your Home

How SIL Supports You

With Cardinal Care, SIL is built around your day, not a fixed roster. Our team learns your routine first, then steps in where it helps. That could be a hand in the morning, support to get out, or a check-in at night. We keep that support steady across Brisbane and Hobart so home always feels like yours. Here is what you can expect.

Supported Independent Living FAQs

SIL is a big decision, so here are answers to the questions we hear most.
What exactly is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

SIL is NDIS funding for 24 hour support to help you live in your own home or a shared one. It covers personal care, household tasks and help to take part in your community. It does not cover rent or everyday living costs.

SIL is for NDIS participants with significant, ongoing needs who require support through the day and night. The NDIA decides based on your situation, needs and goals.

Yes. SIL can sit alongside other supports like Specialist Disability Accommodation or Core Supports, so your plan works as a whole.

SIL is about the support you receive day to day, whether you live alone or share. Specialist Disability Accommodation, or SDA, is about the housing itself. It funds homes designed for people with very high support or functional needs. In short, SIL is the support and SDA is the home.

Work with your support coordinator, or talk to us, to build a roster of care that sets out your daily support needs. That roster goes to the NDIA, and if approved the funding is added to your plan.
