Short Term Accommodation FAQs
Here are answers to the questions we hear most about Short Term Accommodation and respite.
Who is eligible for Short Term Accommodation / Respite under the NDIS?
STA is for NDIS participants who need temporary accommodation and support. It is often used for respite when a regular carer needs a break, or when you need a safe place to stay for a short time.
How is STA and Respite funded under the NDIS?
STA and respite is funded under your Core Supports budget, within Assistance with Daily Life.
What does STA and Respite cover?
It covers the basics of your stay. That includes accommodation, personal care, meals and any agreed activities.
Can STA be used for things other than respite?
Yes. You can also use STA to try out a new living arrangement, like a trial of Supported Independent Living, or simply to enjoy a change of scene.
How do I access STA / Respite through my NDIS plan?
Work with your support coordinator to include STA in your plan. Or talk to us and we will help show it is a reasonable and necessary support linked to your goals.
